If you live in Orem and you've been searching "TMS Orem," you've probably found a few clinic names and not many straight answers. It's hard to know what to ask, and harder to know what a good answer sounds like.

This guide gives you the questions to ask any TMS clinic before you start, plus the answers we give at RSLNT Wellness. We're a veteran-owned, minority-owned TMS clinic inside Provo Towne Centre, and we serve Orem and all of Utah County.

You want to pick the right clinic the first time

Maybe your provider brought up TMS. Maybe a friend mentioned it, or you've been reading about it late at night. TMS usually means visits most weekdays for several weeks, so the clinic you choose matters. Nobody wants to find out halfway through that a question should have been asked at the start.

You deserve clear answers before you commit. Asking good questions isn't being difficult. It's how you look after your time and your care.

What is TMS, in one paragraph?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) uses a magnetic coil placed against the scalp to send short pulses to an area of the brain involved in mood. The National Institute of Mental Health describes the most common side effects as mild, such as scalp discomfort or headache. For more, read how TMS works at our clinic.

Questions to ask any TMS clinic

Use these with any clinic you call. Write the answers down so you can compare them side by side.

1. Who reviews whether TMS fits me?

A good answer tells you who does the evaluation and what they look at: your diagnosis, your history, and anything that could make TMS a poor choice. At RSLNT, a clinician reviews whether TMS is a fit for you at a free consult. It's a conversation, not a treatment session.

2. What device do you use, and what is it cleared for?

Ask for the device name and what the FDA cleared it for. Then ask which services the clinic offers beyond that clearance. A clinic should be able to tell you plainly. Our device and its clearance are in the paragraph above, and the other protocols we offer are under question 3.

3. Which protocol do you recommend for me, and why?

There's more than one way to deliver TMS. Ask which protocol the clinic recommends for you and why. RSLNT offers standard TMS and accelerated TMS, and your clinician recommends a protocol after reviewing your diagnosis and history. We also offer TMS protocols for PTSD, OCD, anxiety, cognitive enhancement and pain, plus therapy and medication management.

4. How long is each visit, and how often will I come in?

This is the question that decides whether TMS fits your week. At RSLNT, standard TMS sessions take 30 minutes, including your first. Accelerated TMS sessions take 10 minutes, and your first accelerated session takes 15 minutes. Visits are usually most weekdays for several weeks, and your clinician sets your schedule.

5. How will you check my insurance or VA referral before I start?

Ask what the clinic checks, and when. You want to know where you stand with your coverage before your first session, not after.

RSLNT Wellness accepts TRICARE, TriWest and VA Community Care. VA Community Care usually starts with a VA referral, and we confirm referrals and benefits at your consult.

TRICARE's coverage page says TRICARE covers TMS on an outpatient basis for adults with major depressive disorder. VA's eligibility page says you need to be enrolled in or eligible for VA health care, and to have approval from your VA health care team before you get care from a community provider. Read our TRICARE and TMS guide for Provo, or our page on care for veterans and their families.

Coverage details are from TRICARE and VA public pages as of October 2026 and can change.

6. What will I owe?

A quote given before anyone checks your benefits usually isn't reliable, so ask the clinic to check first. Our focus is your care. We want costs to be clear before you start. We check your insurance first, talk through payment options and in-house financing, and go over it all at your free consult. Our page on TMS cost in Utah covers what we look at before treatment starts.

7. Does TMS mean I have to stop my medication?

Not automatically. Some people keep taking their medication during TMS and some adjust it with their prescriber. Your clinician decides with you. Don't stop or change any medicine on your own. Talk with your prescriber first.

8. Will you tell me if I'm not a candidate?

You want a clinic that says no when no is the honest answer. Metal in or near the head, certain implants, a seizure history or pregnancy can make TMS a poor choice. Sometimes the honest answer is "not right now."

9. Can I get there week after week?

TMS runs on a regular schedule, so the drive matters as much as the answers above. Pick a clinic you can reach on an ordinary weekday, week after week.
